WREXHAM beat Morecambe 3-1 at The Mazuma Stadium to make it two wins in a row and continue the promotion push in League Two.
With a win over the play-off-chasing Shrimps, the Reds remain three points behind leaders Mansfield in third place, tied for second with Stockport County, and two points ahead of fourth-place MK Dons.
In order to defeat Morecambe and win the points, Phil Parkinson’s team had to come from behind.
Following a dismal beginning to the game, Wrexham’s skipper James McClean equalized for the team just before halftime, leaving Morecambe with just ten men early in the second half.
Wrexham took advantage by going ahead when top scorer Paul Mullin put away a penalty for his 17th goal of the season, while substitute Steven Fletcher made sure of victory when he struck in the final 10 minutes.
The Reds have 10 games remaining in the quest for a second successive promotion.
Parkinson started with the same lineup that defeated Accrington 4-0 the week before, and the bench of replacements was similarly unaltered.
However, Wrexham’s worst-case scenario began in the fourth minute when Morecambe, who had beaten Wrexham 6-0 at The Racecourse in November, seized the lead.
When a ball entered the area, goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo was unable to gather it, and Gerard Garner capitalized by shooting into the lower corner.
Wrexham fell behind and found it difficult to recover, with Morecambe leading the way.
Will Boyle headed wide after McClean’s free kick into the box was a bit too high, and Max Cleworth’s crucial clearance allowed Wrexham to prevent the home team from scoring again.
After Andy Cannon’s cross was deflected behind for a corner that resulted in nothing, a promising effort by the Reds ended with their claims for a penalty turned away after McClean went down under Jacob Bedeau’s challenge.
But Wrexham equalized in the thirty-second minute.
After Mullin pounced on a careless backpass from Bedeau, he raced down the left and squared to McClean, who blasted the ball past Archie Mair, the goalkeeper.
Wrexham persisted in their attack on Morecambe, and after Cannon missed a shot, Mair produced an incredible double stop to stop Mullin and Ryan Barnett.
Mullin’s free kick went too high, and Wrexham’s pressure was much more consistent, but at the half, the score was still tied.
When play resumed, Cleworth headed over the bar from Elliot Lee’s corner, and Cannon’s 25-yard drive was parried by Mair, as the Reds continued where they left off.
