Former Chicago Bears running back dies at 51.
Michael Hicks, a former Chicago Bears running back, has died.

He was 51.

Hicks starred collegiately at South Carolina State University, and the school announced on its website that he died Friday at Thomaston (GA) Medical Centre.

The Bears selected Hicks in the seventh round (253rd overall) of the 1996 draft.

He spent two seasons with the team, appearing in seven games. He rushed 31 times for 106 yards and caught one pass for 1 yard.

Hicks was one of the most talented running backs in South Carolina State history.

Despite playing only three seasons, he is still second on the school’s all-time rushing list, trailing Will Ford. He rushed for 4,093 yards and still holds the Bulldogs’ single-season touchdown scoring record with 22. He has 51 rushing touchdowns, making him the school’s career leader.
He was a three-time All-MEAC selection and was named MEAC Offensive Player of the Year in 1995.
