Sources: Vikings agree to 1-year deal with QB Sam Darnold
Sam Darnold, the quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings, has agreed to a one-year contract, sources told ESPN.
Following his four-year contract extension with the Atlanta Falcons on Monday, longstanding franchise star Kirk Cousins made room for the Vikings at quarterback.
In an attempt to regain his worth as a future starter and learn from coach Kyle Shanahan, Darnold signed a one-year contract with the 49ers during the summer after spending five seasons divided between the New York Jets and Carolina Panthers.
After Darnold outperformed Brock Purdy as the starting quarterback in San Francisco, quarterback Trey Lance was traded to the Dallas Cowboys in the preseason. Mostly used as a mop-up, Darnold played in ten games and completed 297 yards of passing with two touchdowns and one interception.
After the Niners secured the No. 1 seed in Week 17, Darnold took the field for the Week 18 finale against the Los Angeles Rams. In a 21-20 loss, he completed 16 of 26 passes for 189 yards and a touchdown.
The third pick in the 2018 NFL draft, Darnold spent three seasons with the Jets before being traded to Carolina in 2021.
