(Northern News Now) DULUTH, MNIn the semifinal round of the WCHA Final Faceoff on Friday, the eighth-ranked University of Minnesota Duluth women’s hockey team was shut out by the top-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes 5-0.

Midway through the first period, Ohio State would take the lead thanks to a goal from sophomore goalie Hailey MacLeod to Joy Dunne, who got the puck past her.

The Buckeyes were able to cause chaos in front of MacLeod just thirty seconds later on another seemingly innocent play, and Kiara Zanon’s goal made it 2-0.

In the second period, defenseman Emma Peschel’s blue line shot beat a

screened MacLeod to increase the Buckeyes’ lead to 3-0.

Ohio State would bring on two more.

goals despite their goalie Raygan Kirk only needing 17 saves to secure the victory with a shutout.

In the five games between Ohio State and UMD this season, the Buckeyes have held the Bulldogs to zero goals for the fourth time.

The NCAA tournament selection for the eighth-ranked Bulldogs will be revealed on Sunday night.
