Lions’ ‘unresolved issue’ glaring amid 0-3 start as selection call ‘had no effect’
Legendary Kangaroo David King said that the Lions, who are without a win, have a “unresolved issue” in their front half after their top forwards found it difficult to score in their 20-point loss to Collingwood on Thursday night.
In the grand final rematch at the Gabba, Brisbane prevailed 56-43 inside the 50-meter line, but only managed six marks in the forward 50 as the Magpies defense held strong against gun talls Joe Daniher (one goal) and Eric Hipwood (goalless).
The Lions were very strong in the second quarter, winning the inside 50 count 21-2 and holding Collingwood scoreless throughout that time. However, they only managed four goals from nine scoring shots in the quarter.
We had enough entries to win the game, but we weren’t able to turn those entires into marks and scores,” Lions coach Chris Fagan told reporters post match.
“A lot of those were in that second quarter, we had a big number of inside 50s. The ball lived at our end and that’s where all the numbers were, so that made it a little harder to score.”
