Tottenham are going about their summer transfers meticulously and are expected to announce the arrival of Guglielmo Vicario this week.

Tottenham’s new goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario is expected to fly into London on Monday to complete his medical and sign off his deal that will see him take up the role as the long-term replacement of Hugo Lloris.

Spurs first looked to have had eyes on David Raya from Brentford but moved quickly to one of Italy’s rising stars when it become apparent that they were not going to get Raya for the budget they have planned for.

Sources say Brentford was holding out for a fee in the region of £40million while Spurs were not willing to go beyond £29million, especially with Raya having just a year left on his current deal.

Guglielmo Vicario is widely seen as a star in Italian football after helping Empoli to a 14th-place finish in the league while also earning himself a place in the Italy national team recently.

Aged only 26, there is a firm belief among those close to the goalkeeper that he is going to be one of the best in the world, and a move to the Premier League at this age is the best thing that could have happened to him.

Tottenham captain and legend Hugo Lloris still has a year left on his current deal but has not hidden his intention to leave the club this summer if they allow him and new manager Ange Postecoglou, credited with playing football the right way is said to be excited with the capture of Vicario due to his play balling ability and over-all decsion making.

Spurs finished a disappointing eight in the Premier League last season, the first time they had failed to qualify for any kind of European football since 2010, and are looking for their way back to playing the kind of football that excites the fans and has brought recent success, including reaching the final of the Champions League in 2019 and coming close to winning the league under Mauricio Pochettino.
