An examination of WVU’s profits and losses via the transfer website
Since the transfer portal’s launch in 2018, college football teams have relied on players from other universities to cover positions during the offseason. As he starts his sixth season with the Mountaineers, head coach Neal Brown and his staff aim to take control of the team with the players that arrive through the transfer portal.

Transfers Arriving
Reid Carrico
Reid Carrico is a 6-foot-3-inch, 225-pound linebacker for Ohio State. Carrico was the nation’s ninth-ranked linebacker following the 2023 campaign.

In his final year of high school, Carrico won the Ohio Division V South East District Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year award, earning a four-star ranking from ESPN.

Carrico didn’t post many stats in his three years at Ohio State. However, he could make a big defensive contribution to the Mountaineers in 2024.

Crandall, Timothy J.
West Virginia may need assistance to return to its previous level due to a high number of secondary graduations and transfers. T.J. Crandall, a cornerback for Colorado State, was added to the roster to ensure the strength and depth of the secondary.

Crandall recorded 19 total tackles and 1 interception by the end of his rookie season with the Rams. According to the transfer portal On3.com, he is rated as a three-star player.

Jaden Bray
Last season, the Mountaineers were heavy users of the running game. Last year, the passing game hinted at its potential for danger, but wide receiver Jaden Bray from Oklahoma State gave Brown’s squad more depth.

During his three seasons with the Cowboys, Bray caught four touchdown passes for a total of 686 yards. He is a dependable speed threat for West Virginia’s wide receiver room at 6-feet-3-inches.
