VCU hoops transfer portal, roster updates: Te-Biasu bids adieu as links abound

Even before the conclusion of VCU’s season, the transfer portal gears were in motion.

That’s just the way things are in the world of collegiate basketball nowadays. Having assembled VCU’s 2023–24 roster largely through the hectic portal, Rams men’s coach Ryan Odom is more familiar with this than most.

“It’s a different profession now than it’s ever been, but the job doesn’t stop,” Odom remarked to Rams play-by-play radio analyst Robby Robinson following Wednesday’s 74-54 NIT quarterfinal loss at Utah. “It’s what we (coaches) all chose, the profession that we chose,” Odom continued.

“Everyone needs to adapt and take advantage of that, and this team, I believe, accomplished just that.

The first major news came from the VCU women’s camp, where Atlantic 10 player of the year Sarah Te-Biasu on Thursday announced she will enter the portal with one year of eligibility remaining.

Te-Biasu, a shifty, hard-nosed guard with standout ball handling, outside shooting and perimeter defensive skills, averaged a team-high 16 points, 2.9 assists and two steals while starting all 32 games and playing 31.7 minutes per contest this past season.

The Canadian national team member played a whopping 3,497 minutes over her four-year VCU career (2020-2024).

That 31.7 minutes per game clip is actually the lowest of her four seasons. Te-Biasu’s 2022-23 season was cut short to 20 games due to injury.

“Merci VCU,” read her X post, beside black and gold hearts.

“First and foremost, I would like to thank God for everything that he has done for me. I would also like to thank my family, friends, teammates, coaches and Ram Nation for their support during my four years at VCU.
