Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur hope to bring five new players through the door during this summer’s transfer window.
This window is expected to be a busy one at Hotspur Way as Ange Postecolgou has been tasked with overseeing a mass clear-out ahead of his first season in charge at Tottenham (Telegraph).
There are also several incomings expected, with Football Insider reporting last week that Postecoglou wants a new goalkeeper, a centre-back, a wide forward and a midfield enforcer this summer.
Spurs now seem to be on the verge of announcing the capture of Guglielmo Vicario, with Fabrizio Romano stating a couple of days ago that the club are now expected to turn their attention to signing a centre-back and an attacking midfielder, with Edmond Taposba and James Maddison alleged to be on their wishlist.
Tottenham want five summer signings this year
Gold has now revealed that the North London club are aiming to sign a total of five new players, including two centre-backs.
When asked how many signings Tottenham are expected to bring in during this transfer window, the journalist said in a Q&A on Football.London: “The aim is at least five with the goalkeeper, two centre-backs, a central attacking midfielder and a preferably young winger.
“Of course that could increase depending on the opportunities that arise in the market that can’t be passed up as well the need to replace anyone a good bid comes in for that hadn’t been a definite departure before the summer.”

While the aforementioned five positions are evidently the main areas that need to be addressed, I can also see Tottenham potentially bringing in another central midfielder if they do decide to let Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg leave.
However, that would likely be a luxury signing and not one that Spurs are likely to focus on until the final few weeks of the window.
For the moment, a centre-back and an attacking midfielder appear to be the next priorities.
