WVU Defensive Lineman Retires
Zeiqui Lawton, a 2020 graduate of South Charleston High School, was considered by West Virginia, but he finally decided to enroll with Cincinnati. Following his year with the Bearcats, Lawton made the decision to play for the Mountaineers back home by logging onto the transfer portal.
Sadly, things didn’t work out for him while he was wearing gold and blue. Due to an unidentified injury from which he never fully recovered, he only made one appearance in a game. Lawton’s departure from the team was revealed by head coach Neal Brown during his press conference on Wednesday.
“Zeiqui has retired from medicine. He was having trouble with his transaction; it was quite difficult. Fantastic child, I heartily endorse him.”
Thankfully, West Virginia’s defensive line has an amazing depth up front, and with their numbers, they should be able to take Lawton’s position. Brown will keep looking for assistance in the portal at all locations, including the d-line, but right now the group is pretty well-stocked two deep.
