Tyler Allen takes command of the QB room with confidence

Not too much older than the quarterbacks he is developing, he is youthful. However, there’s no denying that Tyler Allen, the quarterback coach at West Virginia, is fearless when it comes to offering his advice and thoughts to his players.

Since being appointed to his current assistant position in February, Allen—who was promoted from offensive analyst and special assistant to head coach and quarterbacks coach at WVU this year—has immediately became involved with the team’s 2024 quarterbacks.

He’s not, for instance, caving in to the irrational aspirations of certain Mountaineer supporters to award Garrett Greene a Heisman Trophy before a 2024 snap is handled.

He’s been getting all of this PFF (Pro Football Focus) hype and all this hype on Twitter how great he is,” Allen said of the service that some view as gospel, but which more knowledgeable fans understand is more sizzle than steak. “He’s got a lot to improve on and he can make a huge jump and we know that, he knows that.”

That’s not just motivation for Greene, either. Allen has also been direct with backup Nicco Marchiol, noting that he needs to improve his pocket awareness to help avoid sacks, while that the same time praising the improvement in the mental side of the game over the offseason. It’s that sort of direct approach that he believes will produce results

Allen stated, “I’ve been in a relationship with Garrett and Nicco since 2018.” “When we were trying to recruit Garrett from Chiles High School in Tallahassee, I was a graduate assistant at Troy. Regarding the bonds that have grown during his two stays at WVU, Allen stated, “That’s been a key piece in our relationship.” “We’ve spent a lot of time together since I came back here (from Jacksonville State) when Nico was a freshman.”
