Match Report: Leicester City 0 – 2 Blackburn Rovers

The League Championship season ended with Leicester City losing to Blackburn Rovers at the King Power by a score of 2-0. First half play was scoreless, with little attacking effort from either side. The Foxes were penalized for missing numerous excellent opportunities to score and were exposed at the back by Sammie Szmodics, who scored two goals on breakaway in the second half.

Examining this match too deeply is largely pointless. The Foxes were certain of promotions having already won the championship. There was only the record 32nd win and the 100-point milestone to go for. While it is disheartening, it is essentially meaningless that those two fascinating but unimportant marks were not obtained. This was a victory

However, my duty as a consummate professional compels me to at least try to wrap it up. Did anyone stand out? Winks was his usual excellent-in-a-low-key-way. Faes looked weirdly comfortable on the left and it makes you wonder if he’s going to be deployed that way next year. Everyone else was…ok? Mistakes by Hermansen and Vestergaard cost us the match, but it wasn’t a terrible performance. It just wasn’t a great one.
