Morecambe FC – another case of an EFL sinking ship
League Two has once again produced an incredible season full of twists and turns.
Whether it was Crawley Town’s rise under Scott Lindsey or Doncaster Rovers’ incredible run that saw them go from relegation contenders to play-off chasers.
After three seasons in the English Football League’s fourth division, Colchester United narrowly avoided relegation against Sutton United, creating a thrilling spectacle.
The splendor of Stockport County under Dave Challinor, who led them with a ruthlessness that allowed them to win the league and return to League One for the first time since 2009.
But despite all the magnificent and spectacular moments, one team more than any other has to be in the spotlight.
That is the Morecambe Football Club, who finished the season in fifteenth place.
For what reason is that the case? It seems like there isn’t much to discuss.
They seem to be the quintessential midtable squad, sitting 16 points above the relegation zone and 12 points outside the play-off spots.
Well, the football has nothing to do with their desire to be discussed.
The night before their season-ending league matchup with Swindon Town, the team released a statement claiming that the club’s owner had not given them the money necessary to pay the employees for the month of April.
