‘Oh my goodness … Maybe it was the last snap I’ll ever take’

SASKATOON — Saskatchewan Roughriders quarterback Trevor Harris can certainly get reflective as he’s preparing for his first game action in 10 months.

When you go through an injury like that at 37 years old and when they first told me I had shattered my tibial plateau, (I knew) my brother-in-law had that injury and it took him quite awhile,” said Harris, who dutifully gives full, thoughtful answers to questions from the media. “I look up and see it’s really a coin flip if you make it back. You wonder if you’re ever going to get to play again.

“You’re like, ‘Oh my goodness, man! Maybe it was the last snap I’ll ever take.’ As time went on I started realizing, ‘I think I want to continue to do this’ and was glad there was mutual interest in bringing me back here.”

With preseason games Monday against the visiting Winnipeg Blue Bombers and May 25 in Edmonton against the Elks, the Riders coaching staff needs to determine a quarterback depth chart while also making sure Harris is fully healthy and capable of running the team’s new offence. The Roughriders open their regular season June 8 in Edmonton.
