Exclusive: Bristol Rovers keen to bring local boy back to BS7 but have competition across EFL
According to Bristol Live, Bristol Rovers have made inquiries about signing local product Miguel Freckleton on a free transfer back to the Mem. However, the defender, who was reared in Lockleaze, will have stiff competition from clubs in the EFL.
Early in his adolescence, Freckleton played midfield for the Rovers academy. However, he departed to play for Mangotsfield United while attending SGS College. In 2021, Sheffield United saw his Southern League achievements and signed him to a two-and-a-half-year deal. Having kept the player’s rights, The Gas did receive a little payment after the transfer.
Freckleton’s agreement at Bramall Lane expires next month and although the 20-year-old has been offered fresh terms following an impressive campaign on loan at Chesterfield in the National League, he is understood to be exploring his options.
Rovers are among a number of clubs keen on signing him, including the Spireites, as they prepare for life in League Two, along with Bradford City and Fleetwood Town, but also the Gas’ League One rivals Wycombe Wanderers, while several sides in the Championship are monitoring his situation.
