Chad Wingard’s former teammate Jared Polec has revealed the dual All-Australian is “heartbroken” over his departure from Port Adelaide.
Wingard was picked up by Hawthorn Hawks after their bid to sign Dylan Shiel fell to the Essendon Bombers.
Despite Port insisting that their star was going nowhere Wingard looks all but set to make the trip east in return for defender Ryan Burton.
It’s a “messy” saga that has yet to be fully revealed but Polec assured the 25-year-old was hurting over the move.
“His head was in no man’s land at that stage and I believe he’s heartbroken over it,” Polec told Nine’s The Trade Table.
“He loves the club, he loves Port Adelaide. Anyone who speaks to him knows he loves Port Adelaide”Unless a statement comes from me or my management, don’t listen to them,” Wingard posted on Instagram.Damien Barrett insisted there was a “messy backdrop” to the ongoing saga but former Port Adelaide star Kane Cornes believes Wingard’s ethic put him on the block.“The only reason Wingard is leaving is because he’s not feeling a lot of love for Ken Hinkley and perhaps more security and more finances from Hawthorn.”Power football manager Chris Davies insists a deal won’t happen unless his team are “suitably compensated” for Wingard, a dual All-Australian who is contracted to the club until the end of the 2019 season.
