Marshall football: Army, Western Michigan dropped from future schedules
Three future non-conference games for the Marshall football team have been removed from the schedule, Thundering Herd athletic director Christian Spears said.
A home-and-home series with the Army Black Knights was canceled after the two schools mutually agreed on the decision, which was made in part to help clear space on Army’s future schedules as it transitions to the American Athletic Conference in 2024 after competing as an FBS independent for nearly two decades.
Additionally, Marshall has reworked a home-and-home agreement with Western Michigan and turned it into a single-game contract to be played Sept. 28, 2024, voiding the return game, which was scheduled to serve as the 2025 season opener in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
That clears two games off Marshall’s 2025 non-conference schedule, leaving the Herd with only one non-league game on the slate, which is a road game at Middle Tennessee State University.
Spears said Marshall is actively trying to fill those games and has prospective opponents in mind, but nothing is official.
The Black Knights were scheduled to visit Joan C. Edwards Stadium in 2025, and the return game in West Point, New York, was slated for 2026.
