Heavyweight Legend Wants ‘Mind-Blowing’ Anthony Joshua Fight 20 Years After Retirement

Despite not currently holding any world titles, a fight against Anthony Joshua remains one of the most lucrative in the sport for would-be opponents.

The fighter from Watford exploded onto the heavyweight scene after an Olympic Gold Medal at London 2012 and promptly started collecting belts.

After beating Dillian Whyte for the British and Commonwealth, ‘AJ’ picked up his first world honours against Charles Martin with a second round knockout.

He would then star in a thriller with Wladimir Klitschko to add the WBA belt before beating Joseph Parker for the WBO. He won all three back in a rematch following a shock loss to Andy Ruiz Jr, but couldn’t do the same against Oleksandr Usyk, who beat him twice and went on to become undisputed.

The Ruiz loss in 2019 stacked up with some of the biggest heavyweight upsets in history, although still fell short of Mike Tyson‘s stoppage defeat to Buster Douglas.

Tyson is currently prepping for a return to the ring for a controversial bout against Jake Paul. If he wins, he told TMZ that he would ‘love’ to fight ‘AJ’ for charity.

“I’m very interested. If doing that means we can have a bigger charity exponent, well so be it, I’m down to do that, too. I would love to [fight Joshua]. That would be mind-blowing.”

‘Iron’ Mike is one of Joshua’s heroes in the sport. The two-time world champ – currently pushing to make that three – has predicted the heavyweight legend loses to Paul though, simply due to age.

On The Jonathan Ross Show he said the spectacle was ‘good for boxing’ but expressed concern for Tyson and prayed he would leave the ring healthy. It’s for that reason a fight of their own won’t happen.
