KUALA LUMPUR – Kuching City FC’s goalkeeper, Shahril Sa’ari admitted that his role in front of the goal is very important, especially at the critical time to face Selangor FC in the second quarter-final of the FA Cup this Saturday.

Admitting that the first goal Selangor got in the first quarter of the day was due to his mistake, Shahril refused to repeat the same thing and was more careful in ensuring that no more goals were conceded in the next match.

For the 34-year-old goalkeeper, the second quarter-final is definitely more difficult considering the fighting spirit of Nidzam Jamil’s men who want to rise again in front of their supporters.

What is certain, he is aware of the important task of the whole team not to make simple mistakes, especially at critical times that can open up space for the opponent to score goals.

“We know that Selangor is a strong team especially playing at home and this is not an easy match for us.

“Honestly, what we can do is avoid simple mistakes in front of the goal because I can say that Selangor has a very dangerous attacking line.

“So, if they see a little space from us, it’s really difficult and that’s why the team should be more alert to avoid repeating the same mistakes”, he explained to the Malaysian Football League here.

Although Kuching City has a one-goal advantage when visiting the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium, Shahril believes their path to the semi-finals will not be easy as Selangor likes to pull off surprises in the final minutes of the match.

“For me, as long as we can survive, we have to survive and whatever comes even if it’s the last minute, if we are disciplined, God willing everything will be fine.

“Even now in the training session there are some changes from the coach (Aidil Shahrin Sahak), but he emphasizes on the whole team, not individuals”, he added.
