As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Freiburg have set their sights on Leeds United forward Wilfried Gnonto.
Last summer Christian Streich was hoping to sign the Italian forward from FC Zürich, however, Gnonto chose a move to the Premier League. Nevertheless, with the Yorkshire club succumbing to relegation to the Championship, Freiburg’s interest in the 19-year-old has sparked once again.
According to the daily, Leeds are asking for a fee between €15m to €20m for Gnonto who also has attracted interest from Premier League side Everton. However, a move to the Black Forest would reunite Gnonto with his international colleague Vincenzo Grifo.
In Gnonto’s first campaign in English football, the forward featured 45 times in all competitions scoring six goals and collecting five assists. Gnonto is currently away on international duty for the under-21 European Championship, where he has featured in both group games for Italy scoring one goal in a 3-2 win over Switzerland.
Sport Bild have reported that Freiburg are currently searching for further attacking reinforcement after the acquisition of Junior Adamu from RB Salzburg earlier this summer. Die Breisgau are looking for a striker that has the same amount of quality as Adamu, in an attempt to solidify themselves as a consistent European side in Germany.
