The Steelers’ defense demonstrated an overwhelming performance in their victory against the Broncos.

The Pittsburgh Steelers, buoyed by their Week 1 victory against the Denver Broncos, aimed to achieve a 2-0 record for the first time since 2020 as they traveled to face the Denver Broncos on Sunday. The Steelers successfully achieved this goal, securing a 13-6 win in a contest that they predominantly controlled from the initial kickoff.

Pittsburgh’s defense demonstrated its characteristic dominance, limiting the Broncos to minimal yardage while achieving six quarterback hits and effectively disrupting their offensive rhythm, consistently unsettling rookie quarterback Bo Nix.

Despite facing numerous penalties that hindered their offensive efforts, the Steelers managed to score points and control the game clock through a robust ground game. The trio of Pittsburgh Steelerss, Jaylen Warren, and Najee Harris accumulated a total of 141 yards on 36 carries, with Fields completing 13 of 20 passes, including his first touchdown pass of the season.

Winning the coin toss, the Steelers opted to defer, allowing Nix to start the game with the ball.

Continuing from their strong performance in Week 1, Pittsburgh’s defense forced a three-and-out on the Broncos’ opening drive, which included a couple of short runs and a seven-yard reception by Greg Dulcich.

The Steelers’ offense mirrored Denver’s initial series, as they too were compelled to punt after a three-and-out.

Corliss Waitman, who had previously played in two games for Pittsburgh in 2021, successfully pinned the Broncos at their own 15-yard line. He joined the team on Monday following Cameron Johnston’s season-ending injury sustained in Week 1.

On the next drive, Pittsburgh’s pass rush effectively halted Denver’s progress. Alex Highsmith penetrated the backfield and sacked Nix.

After a lengthy punt return by Calvin Austin III was negated by a holding penalty, the Steelers took possession at their own 22-yard line.

Fields connected with George Pickens on a slant route, marking the first fresh set of downs for either team, before the Steelers’ quarterback executed a 16-yard run into Broncos territory.
