Tottenham Hotspur are in discussions with Atletico Madrid over the departure of one of their players, according to a report.
Tottenham have had a busy transfer window already, confirming the permanent signing of loanee Dejan Kulusevski and then bringing in two new faces. On Tuesday evening they announced the arrival of Italian goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli.
According to Sky Sports, Tottenham have paid £17.1m for Vicario, who will likely become the long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris.
On Wednesday, Spurs followed that deal up with the capture of Leicester City playmaker James Maddison. Newcastle United had been interested in him, but Spurs beat them to the signing by finalising a £40m deal with Leicester.
Spurs could now turn their attention to two potential exits. Bayern have already had a bid worth £60m rejected for Harry Kane. As per journalist Ben Jacobs, Bayern are now preparing an improved offer worth £80m to test Spurs’ resolve.
The North London side must also consider whether midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg will fit into Ange Postecoglou’s plans. It is unclear whether the 27-year-old has the agility to perform well in Postecoglou’s fast-paced system.

On June 20, it emerged that Atleti had set their sights on Hojbjerg as a potential summer addition.
And Italian source Tuttomercatoweb have now provided an update on the situation. They reveal the Spurs man is a ‘very important’ target for Atleti as manager Diego Simeone is desperate to improve his midfield ahead of next season.
Tottenham could offload Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
It is claimed Spurs and the Spanish side are ‘in negotiations’ over Hojbjerg’s potential transfer. Atleti have asked Spurs how much they will demand for him, though they are not happy with the response.
It seems a few more rounds of talks will need to be done before the two teams can reach an agreement.
Spurs signed Hojbjerg from Southampton in August 2020, spending a reported £20m on him. Since then, Hojbjerg has established himself as a regular in the Spurs starting eleven, making 44 appearances across all competitions last term.
Should the Denmark international head to Atleti, then he would compete with the likes of Rodrigo de Paul, Koke, Marcos Llorente and Saul for a starting spot.
If Spurs let him go, then Postecoglou would be left with Maddison, Oliver Skipp, Yves Bissouma, Pape Sarr and Rodrigo Bentancur as midfield options. Although, Bentancur will not return from his ACL rupture until November.
