Paul Merson believes that Tottenham’s Harry Kane is the type of signing that would take Chelsea to “another level”.

England captain Harry Kane, who’s linked with a move away from Spurs every transfer window, is still in North London for now.

TalkSPORT previously claimed that Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino would love his club to sign Kane this summer so he can form a reunion with him. He knows that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is unlikely to sell the 29-year-old to such a close rival, though.

Meanwhile, journalist Florian Plettenberg recently said on Twitter that Bayern Munich would be Kane’s preferred destination for his next club.

So, will the £200,000-a-week (Salary Sport) striker finally be on the move this summer?

Sky Sports pundit Merson suggests that Kane is the perfect signing for Chelsea. In fact, he thinks it would even put Pochettino’s side in the conversation to challenge for the Premier League title.

“They (Chelsea) need midfielders and they also need a centre-forward. The only player out there who takes Chelsea to another level is Harry Kane, he’s the only one. He takes Chelsea to challenging for the league title again,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“If Chelsea buy Kane, something would be wrong if they didn’t finish in the top four, that’s how big a difference Kane would make.”

Kane has been one of the world’s elite centre-forwards for years now, so we would obviously love someone with his talent leading the line at Stamford Bridge.

We can’t imagine him in a blue shirt next season, though?

Chelsea have reinforced the striker position this summer by signing 22-year-old Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal. Can him and Armando Broja score enough goals for the Blues next season as the main first-team attackers, though?

We agree that this Chelsea side will elevate to new heights if they sign a world-class No 9, but there’s a gigantic bridge to gap to treble winners Manchester City. The immediate task should be getting back in the top four, too.
