The Guardian have revealed that Newcastle United have now emerged as the frontrunner to sign rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Harvey Barnes.

It has been widely reported over the last few weeks that Tottenham, who signed James Maddison from Leicester City recently, also have their eye on Barnes (Sami Mokbel – Last Word on Spurs).

Earlier this week, we relayed a report from The Daily Mail which suggested that Spurs, Aston Villa and West Ham had all enquired about the winger’s availability but they now face a challenge from Newcastle, who have reignited their interest in the 25-year-old.

Barnes no longer a priority for Tottenham

It has now been reported by The Guardian that North Londoners are ‘less likely’ to move for Barnes this summer since Tottenham are close to completing a deal for Manor Solomon.

The report claims that Newcastle have now moved into pole position to snap up the Leicester star since Magpies boss Eddie Howe is keen on adding reinforcements out wide.

The outlet adds that West Ham continues to be on Barnes’ trail, with the Hammers backed to spend some of the fee they will receive from Declan Rice’s sale to strengthen their attack.

Solomon is a much better squad option than Barnes as the Israeli winger can play on either flank, which means he can cover for both Son and Kulusevski.

The 23-year-old is also a much more aggressive and confident ball carrier than the Leicester man, which makes him a very useful impact substitute to bring on.
