The Athletic have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur beat out competition from several clubs, including Barcelona, to win the race for Manor Solomon.

Solomon is set to sign for Spurs in a free transfer, with reports indicating that the winger is due for a medical at Hotspur Way before finalising his move to the North London club (Fabrizio Romano).

The Athletic report that Tottenham faced plenty of competition for the 23-year-old’s services, with Fulham keen on snapping him up permanently following his loan spell at Craven Cottage while Barcelona and RB Leipzig also showed ‘serious interest’ in the player.

Solomon had his heart set on Tottenham Hotspur

However, it is explained that as soon as a switch to Spurs became a viable option, Solomon had made up his mind regarding where he wanted to move to.

It is explained that the pacy wide-man was keen to remain in London, having quickly grown to love the city since his arrival last summer.

Solomon also allegedly had a soft spot for Tottenham growing up, due to the club’s proud heritage of Jewish supporters and their popular following in Israel.

The Athletic add that apart from the aforenoted clubs, the winger almost signed for Manchester City when he was at Maccabi Petah Tikva and that Arsenal also tried to snap him up from Shakhtar Donetsk in the past.

Solomon’s signing has understandably gone under the radar a bit, partly due to the fact that he did not establish himself as a regular starter for Fulham last season.

However, there is no doubt that this is an astute capture for Spurs as the 23-year-old was showing signs in the second half of last season that he was ready to explode.
