That’s according to Nizaar Kinsella of the Evening Standard, who claims that Thomas Frank’s side retain an interest in the winger and are ready to offer a club-record fee to lure the Welsh winger to London.
According to a report yesterday from the Daily Mail, interested parties believe they can get the winger for £40 million and this is further backed up in the Evening Standard’s report.
It states there’s a belief on Brentford’s end that £40 million would indeed be enough to sign Johnson, despite the winger having three years left on his current contract.
There may be a temptation for Forest to cash in on their most prized asset after signing 27 players last season with a spend of around £150 million.
Balancing the books may well be crucial for Forest and could be key in the thinking of the the club’s decision-makers.
Aston Villa and Brentford may have to battle it out to sign Brennan Johnson
After Brentford reportedly failed in their bid to sign Brennan Johnson back in June, another club entered the race.
Despite the Birmingham outfit being linked with Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby, Aston Villa are also reportedly interested in Johnson.
The winger would add dynamism to either Villa or Brentford’s front-line.
With eight goals and three assists, he would be an excellent goalscoring option, which, in Brentford’s case, may well be crucial because of the suspension of Ivan Toney.
The goals from Johnson were crucial in keeping Forest up last season, and he would be a superb signing for either side, should a deal be agreed with the Reds.
