Leeds United are reportedly plotting to hijack a nearing agreement between Bournemouth and Newcastle United ‘keeper Karl Darlow.
The Whites are gearing up for their second pre-season friendly in front of fans today with Daniel Farke likely to name something closer to his best lineup.
His goalkeeper slot is going to be a key topic of conversation, given the future of Illan Meslier seems to be away from the club, on top of Joel Robles’ already confirmed exit.
Karl Darlow transfer latest
It seemed this week that Leeds were all set to miss out on priority goalkeeper target Karl Darlow from Newcastle United.
That’s because the stopper is said to be nearing a move to Premier League side Bournemouth under Andoni Iraola – per The Northern Echo.
Darlow travelled to the US for the Magpies’ pre-season tour, but is expected to be given permission to fly back to the UK to discuss a transfer, should an agreement be reached.
Leeds hijack on the cards?
Now, NUFC Blog are reporting that Leeds aren’t giving up in their hopes of signing the 32-year-old from St James’ Park.
They claim that Darlow is still leaning towards a move to Leeds, because of the proximity of Leeds to the North East, meaning he can remain closer to family.
“The Cherries have been in talks with Newcastle this week over a deal for the 32-year-old, but the Whites are back in the mix and the new favourites to land the goalkeeper.”
If Darlow is dawdling on a move away because he’s still undecided, we need to move on.
As much as he’d be a decent signing for us in the Championship, the time taken to get this done is not ideal.
The league we’re in boasts a good number of ‘keepers that would be more than good enough for us this season under Farke.
We need to work a lot faster though if we want to get a deal done.
