Nottingham Forest promotion-winner Jack Colback now wanted by two Championship clubs
Nottingham Forest allowed Jack Colback to leave at the end of his contract and now he’s receiving some interest. Championship duo West Brom and Birmingham are both keen to sign him this summer.
Colback proved a wonderful player for the Reds. He enjoyed two different spells on Trentside and proved to be a very useful squad player in the Premier League last season.
Now, he’s a wanted man. According to Birmingham Live, the two second-tier clubs will do battle to land the 33-year-old before the season gets underway in a little under two weeks.
Colback is a proven performer in the Championship. He’s made 188 appearances at that level during his career and it’s perhaps surprising that he doesn’t have a club lined up already.
Last season, Colback made 16 appearances for Forest in all competitions. He largely played as a central midfielder last term but the season previous, he developed into a wonderful left-back.
Both Birmingham and West Brom will have considerable pull. The duo are both sizeable clubs and Colback would be a very useful asset for any club in the Championship next season.
The experienced performer initially joined Forest back in 2018 on loan from Newcastle. He helped the club avoid relegation and then he signed permanent terms at the City Ground in 2020.
He became a cult hero on Trentside and really thrived under Steve Cooper. Colback proved to be a firm fan favourite and last season he was a very decent outside bet for the club’s Player of the Year accolade.
Departed Forest star Colback receives interest
Both Birmingham and West Brom would welcome the chance to sign Colback. One risky aspect will be that he’s not enjoyed a proper pre-season and at 33, perhaps he’d have to quickly get up to speed.
West Brom might have promotion aspirations during 2023/24. For Birmingham, they will aim to settle down once again after finally being taken over and a season of transition is expected for them.
Colback would be a brilliant signing for both clubs, however. He still has bags to offer, not least his versatility and that alone makes him a very useful squad player wherever he goes next.
West Brom fans know all about Colback from the 2021/22 campaign. He scored a wonderful goal in a 4-0 win for Forest against the Baggies and they’d be glad to have him on their own team.
Forest fans won’t have a bad word said about Colback. He was brilliant for the Reds and he’ll be wished the very best wherever he goes to play his football next.
