Club ‘rejected last-minute offer’ from Crystal Palace for player – Eagles ‘tried very hard’, offered him bigger wages
Vicente Guaita was the main goalkeeper at Crystal Palace last season with Sam Johnstone providing cover to the Spaniard. In addition to the duo, the Eagles currently have Remi Matthews in their squad after he returned from a loan spell at St. Johnstone.
Despite having the trio and youngster Joe Whitworth, the Premier League side made an attempt to sign Bayern Munich goalkeeper Alexander Nübel.
That’s according to Sport1, who state Crystal Palace ‘tried very hard’ to sign the German before he completed a loan move to VfB Stuttgart on Tuesday.
It’s said Roy Hodgson’s side were flexible and were willing to take the 26-year-old either on a loan deal with a purchase option or through a permanent transfer. The London club were also ready to offer a significantly higher salary to the player.
Unfortunately for Crystal Palace, the report states the Bundesliga winners ‘rejected the last-minute offer’ made by them, meaning the Eagles will therefore have to look elsewhere if they still want to sign a new goalkeeper.
Having spent the last two seasons on loan at AS Monaco, Bayern wanted Nübel to join Stuttgart and he has already accepted his parent club’s ‘wish’.
