Leeds United are poised to sign Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow in what appears to be a bargain deal.
Karl Darlow is set to join Leeds United with a medical now imminent for the Newcastle United goalkeeper.
Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie claims on Twitter that Darlow is moving to Leeds for a fee in the region of £400,000.
Magpies boss Eddie Howe has indicated to Downie that Darlow is set to undergo a Leeds medical very soon.
The move should be done soon but the real talking point is the transfer fee.
The Hull Daily Mail reported earlier in July that Newcastle were seeking around £5million for Darlow.
In almost no time at all, Newcastle are allegedly accepting just £400,000 for the veteran stopper.
The difference there is huge and it’s unclear just why Newcastle would drop their demands so dramatically.
Leeds won’t be complaining though and will now believe that they have a quality stopper in a bargain move.
Karl Darlow needs to get back on track at Leeds United
Darlow initially signed for Newcastle back in 2014 but spent a year back on loan with Nottingham Forest.
In eight years as a Newcastle player, Darlow has only featured 86 times in the Premier League.
Darlow did spend the second half of last season on loan at Hull City and impressed in goal for the Tigers.
Hull boss Liam Rosenior hailed Darlow as ‘outstanding’ but hasn’t been able to sign him permanently.
Darlow needs to be playing regularly and shown his quality week in and week out.
Leeds should now present that opportunity with Illan Meslier potentially on his way out this summer.
Darlow has shown his ability in fits and starts over the years but will now be looking for consistency with Leeds as his move draws closer.
