COVENTRY, CT (WFSB) – Police arrested a man accused of trying to invade a home in Coventry.

Authorities said it happened Thursday at a home on Twin Hills Drive.

Devin McConnell, 56, allegedly threatened a victim and tried to get access to their home, Coventry police said.

McConnell “reportedly made multiple threatening calls to the victim,” said police.

Authorities said McConnell went to the home and tried to get in through the front and rear doors.

Arriving officers found McConnell, who was armed with a box cutter.

He was taken into police custody.

McConnell, of Coventry, was arrested and charged with criminal attempt to commit home invasion, threatening-second degree, and breach of peace second-degree.

He was held on a $100,000 bond and is due in court on Friday.

Authorities said McConnell was arrested by Coventry police on Saturday, July 15 for an unrelated incident. He made threatening phone calls to another resident in town.

He was charged with harassment second-degree in that case.

Released Coventry City player training with former club as he seeks fresh deal

Coventry City transfer news from CoventryLive as former Sky Blues striker turning out for the Rams in pre-season as he looks for new deal at League One club

Former Coventry City striker Martyn Waghorn is training with Derby County where manager Paul Warne has not ruled out making the player an offer to rejoin his old club.

The 33-year-old, who signed for the Sky Blues two years ago on a free transfer from Pride Park, played in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Huddersfield on Tuesday as the Rams faced a strong Neil Warnock team.

The forward is currently looking for his next move after being released by Mark Robins at the end of the season and is available on a free transfer.

Waghorn played in Saturday’s 3-0 win against Stoke when he came off the bench having been invited by Craig Forsyth to play in his testimonial. The player, who made more than 100 appearances for Derby, could now feature in the pre-season clash against Sheffield United this weekend.

Speaking to Rams TV, Warne joked: “It’s unbelievable here isn’t it. It’s like MI5. Derby fans are unbelievable they are like ‘ooh who is that in the background of a photo?!’

“But it’s very simple. Waggy played for us last week in Fozzy’s testimonial and I really liked him as a lad.

“I liked all those Derby players to be fair. It is their football club and they are kindly letting us work here for a bit.

“I realise he’s out of contract and he lives not far away. I just thought you should treat ex-players with respect so I invited him into train.

“I’ve been completely open with him and if he signs for someone tomorrow then he goes with my blessing.

“There might be something here for you, there might not. Just train and play in the games and if we can help each other out, great.

“That’s exactly how it’s been. He was really good in the game in midweek and he’s only trained two days.

“We’ll see. It’s more that I am helping him out and not in a patronising way, but it’s hard to train on your own as a footballer.

“He’s been a great servant to the club and a friend of Fozzy is a friend of mine. That’s how it is. There’s no smoke and mirrors and I can’t be any more candid.”
