Leeds United remain vulnerable to an exit for Tyler Adams this summer after a report confirmed he can leave for a similar price to what they signed him for.

Adams joined Leeds from RB Leipzig last summer in order to reunite with Jesse Marsch. He has outlasted his former manager at Elland Road, but that doesn’t mean he will definitely be staying in West Yorkshire.

As one of the more impressive performers from the Leeds squad that suffered relegation to the Championship, Adams has alerted various suitors from the Premier League.

For example, Aston Villa have been named as major admirers of the USMNT star. And according to The Athletic, their pathway to signing him may be easier than initially imagined.

It has been revealed that Adams has a relegation release clause in his Leeds contract. While its exact value isn’t disclosed, it is said to be in a similar region to the £20m fee Leeds spent to sign Adams in the first place.

Leeds remain optimistic that the 24-year-old might stay for their promotion push. What may work in their favour is the fact that Adams is currently injured and isn’t due to recover until after the transfer window closes.

Nevertheless, clubs like Aston Villa could be looking to activate his release clause, which would take the decision out of Leeds’ hands.

Aston Villa have already bolstered their midfield by picking up another relegated midfielder this summer in the shape of Youri Tielemans from Leicester City on a free transfer.

And while Adams would cost them money, they similarly have the opportunity to bypass any club-to-club negotiations if they feel his release clause represents value for money.

Adams future at Leeds in doubt

If not, Leeds still have Adams under contract until 2027. But TEAMtalk revealed last month that he has told them he wants to play in the Premier League again.

It puts them at risk of yet another departure following their loss of Premier League status. Adams’ compatriot Brenden Aaronson has also left on loan for Union Berlin, Rasmus Kristensen has followed Diego Llorente to Roma, Robin Koch has left for Eintracht Frankfurt and Marc Roca has returned to his native Spain with Real Betis.

As for permanent exits, Rodrigo Moreno has joined Al-Rayyan in Qatar and Joel Robles has also moved to the Middle East with Saudi side Al Qadsiah.

Next to leave could be Maximilian Wober, who is close to being loaned to Borussia Monchengladbach.
