Here are your evening Leeds United headlines on Saturday, June 29.

Farke’s behind-the-scenes Bielsa link at Leeds United as he is distanced from Marsch pitfalls

Comparisons between Marcelo Bielsa, who Liam Cooper fondly calls the great one, and current Leeds United manager Daniel Farke are irresistible to the club skipper. The Argentine took United from 13th in the Championship to ninth in the Premier League within three years on a diet of attacking, never-say-die football and a strictly regimented training programme.

It is discipline, structure and attractive football Cooper intimates they have all missed across the past 17 months. Farke has been in the job for a little over three weeks, but the early impressions for Cooper only trigger memories of Bielsa’s tenure.

“For me, in the first three or four weeks we’ve been with him, I haven’t got enough praise for him,” he said. “He’s managed his staff. They’ve been brilliant. Strict, but fair, honest. He’s not afraid to get after people.

“That’s what we’ve been missing, that’s what we’ve needed. For me, personally, I certainly get the best out myself when I have a manager like that and these boys in this team, obviously apart from the new boys, we’re used to that.

“We’ve worked under that before and there’s a lot of similarities with the great one and now we’re all looking forward to it.”

Daniel Farke’s Leeds United selection conundrum as Hearts clash could provide telling clues

Daniel Farke will begin piecing together his Leeds United starting XI to face Cardiff City over the coming days. The German head coach has only had three and a half weeks with his players on the training ground, but the Whites will be kicking off their Championship campaign in eight days’ time and he has huge decisions to make.

On the face of it, Farke has selection calls to make across the park. With Karl Darlow due to come through the door, there’s a decision to make between the sticks, while there are a number of options to consider across the backline.

Choices are few and far between in the middle of the park, but there are decisions to make out wide and up front as Farke must decide on how he wants his attacking line-up to look. It’s that battle for places at the head of the field that seems to intrigue more than most, too, with Patrick Bamford and Georginio Rutter both pushing for secure the lead striker role.
