Nottingham Forest are keen on signing Angers midfielder Batista Mendy. The player has just been part of the team as the Ligue 1 side finished rock-bottom of the league and suffered relegation.

The 23-year-old has been with Angers for two years. Before that, he was on the books at Nantes but only managed to make three appearances before moving to his current club.

Mendy has become a mainstay in the Angers team. He’s made 73 appearances, scoring once and also registering one assist, with the defensive side of the game considered more his remit.

According to Liga Insider, Mendy will be a wanted man this summer. Forest have been linked with Mainz, Everton and Valencia also thought to be considering a move for the player.

Mendy has a contract with Angers until 2024. As a result, they could be tempted to cash in on one of their prized assets during the transfer window which is about to open this month.

Forest could find themselves in the market for another midfielder. Cheikhou Kouyate isn’t getting any younger, whilst Remo Freuler could well seek a move back to Italy this summer.

Forest keen on Mendy

The youngster has showcased a combative nature at times during the current campaign. He’s collected six yellow cards and his tough-tackling approach could be what Forest fancy signing.

Mendy would probably provide a cheap midfield player ahead of next season. Angers will need to sell some players following their relegation and a cut-price deal could be on the cards.

The midfielder has a host of clubs looking at him ahead of the summer transfer window. In 2017, he was linked with a move to Arsenal but they ultimately decided to go for other options.

The report claims that a move could be done for as little as £3.5 million. That would be a drop in the ocean for the Reds and perhaps this deal is one that could get over the line.
