Leeds United target Gustavo Hamer is reportedly holding off on signing a new contract at Coventry City due to ongoing transfer interest.

Daniel Farke is looking to bring in more signings this summer as the Championship season gets underway this week.

In the middle of midfield, he’s brought in £7million Ethan Ampadu, but still needs more having lost Marc Roca and Adam Forshaw.

Reports from Voetbal Rotterdam late in July claimed that Coventry City star, and Leeds target, Gustavo Hamer is stalling on a new contract due to ongoing interest from Leeds and other clubs.

Here, we look at two things Leeds need to weigh up as links to Hamer re-emerge…

How much will he cost?

Leeds are back in the Championship and have to curb their ambition somewhat despite having the financial clout through their owners to spend more lavishly than they are.

With that, it means that Leeds might not be able to just cherry-pick the best players in the division to strengthen their promotion push.

Signing Ampadu is a start, but a reported £15million asking price is steep for Leeds without letting players go.

When we need a new striker, centre-backs, left-back and potentially a winger on top of what we’ve already done and wanting to sign Hamer, it’s a huge amount to spend.

Can he fill the void in attacking midfield?

After bringing in a deep-lying midfielder in Ampadu, Leeds’ attention likely needs to turn to a more advanced position in the number 10 slot.

Leeds have no natural options for the position after Brenden Aaronson left on loan – albeit the USMNT man didn’t look ‘natural’ to being in a creative role.

Hamer played typically as a number eight in the 22/23 season for the Sky Blues, but his immense output of 11 goals and 10 assists shows he was more than capable of not only creating, but arriving in the box to support the striker.

Proof there that he’d be able to operate in an advanced position, while still offering balance to our side out of possession.
