Leeds United are among the clubs linked with Swansea City striker Joel Piroe and Swans boss Michael Duff has given an update on the 23-year-old ahead of the opening fixture

Swansea City boss Michael Duff insists the clubs have not received any offers for Joel Piroe so far this summer. Leeds United are among the clubs linked with the striker, who has entered the final year of his contract in South Wales.

Piroe has netted 44 goals in his two seasons with the Swans, and has been widely tipped to leave in the current window. However, as it stands, the 24-year-old is expected to lead the line for the opening-day fixture at home to Birmingham City on Saturday.

Duff was asked about the future of his star striker in his pre-match press conference, with Leicester City and Serie A side Atalanta also credited with an interest. The Swans boss revealed talks had been held with Piroe, and hailed the former Netherlands youth international’s conduct amid the speculation over his future.

He told reporters: “I’ve had conversations with Joel, there’s been no bids. Until there’s a bid, he’s our player. He’s been absolutely top-drawer the way he’s gone about it all.”

Swansea are said to be holding out for a fee in the region of £15 million for Piroe this summer, with the striker said to have told the club he will not be signing a contract extension. However, our sister title WalesOnline recently reported the forward is ‘expected to stay’ for the remainder of his current deal.

Daniel Farke remains keen to continue the rebuild of the Whites squad following relegation, with a host of first-team stars already departing. However, further exits could still be on the cards with Tyler Adams, Junior Firpo, Wilfried Gnonto, Jack Harrison, Illan Meslier, Luis Sinisterra, Crysencio Summerville all linked with moves away.
