A look at this morning’s lartest Leeds United headlines
Joe Rodon loan move ‘agreed’
Following last night’s update that Liam Cooper has been ruled out for up to eight weeks (read more on that below), Leeds United look to be making moves to address their defensive situation.
Mike McGrath of the Telegraph reports that Tottenham have agreed a deal with Leeds for Wales centre-back Joe Rodon over a season-long loan. He adds that the formalities of the deal will follow ‘in the coming days’.
Following the exits of the likes of Max Wober, Robin Koch, Diego Llorente and Rasmus Kristensen, plus Cooper’s injury, central defence looks to be a priority for Leeds as we head towards the final three weeks of the transfer window.
Rodon has fallen further down the pecking order at Spurs following the club’s signing of Micky van de Ven and spent last season on loan with French side Rennes.
Leeds United add Summerville to Cooper injury update and rule them out for weeks
Injuries landed like hammer blows at Leeds United during Sunday’s Cardiff City draw, ruling goal scorers Liam Cooper and Crysencio Summerville out for several weeks apiece. Bad news on the captain had been feared after he was stretchered off, but the club have now revealed Summerville ended the game with a groin strain.
Leeds have also taken the opportunity to update supporters on Junior Firpo’s situation. The left-back is still recovering from torn lateral ligaments in his knee and will be missing for at least another four weeks, which puts him out until after the first international break.
Cooper, the club have confirmed, has ruptured the plantar fascia in his left foot and will be out of action for up to eight weeks. October 3, one day before Queens Park Rangers visit Elland Road, is eight weeks from now.
Pre-Shrewsbury talking points
Leeds United host Matt Taylor’s Shrewsbury Town at Elland Road in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night and here are five things to look out for around the match
An 11-year survivor?
Leeds United last faced Shrewsbury Town almost exactly 11 years ago. That clash also came in this competition and there is actually one survivor from that Whites line-up in contention for tonight’s game.
Neil Warnock was in charge at Elland Road on that occasion and selected an 18-year-old Sam Byram in defence. Archie Gray’s dad, Andy, was even on the bench that night, to add another layer to the nostalgia.
Drameh boost?
The one injury we haven’t heard from Daniel Farke on regards Cody Drameh. The right-back has missed the last three matches and would be ideally suited to tonight’s game if he is back in training.
After the misery of yesterday’s injury update on Liam Cooper and Crysencio Summerville, seeing Drameh at least back would be some sort of boost.
