Sean Dyche has received a double help in his effort to fix Everton’s scoring drought.

In addition to new acquisition Beto’s strong performance and debut goal in the EFL Cup win over Doncaster, it was announced that Dominic Calvert-Lewin will not require surgery for his facial injury and will return to action after the international break.

Beto will make his Premier League debut against fellow strugglers Sheffield United on Saturday, after changing Everton and impressing Dyche with his hunger as a half-time substitute on Wednesday.

‘He looked exactly how we hoped he would,’ Dyche added. ‘A physical presence on the ball while also stretching the pitch. His desire was the most important thing to me. He has the ability to sprint, but he goes fast and wants to get inside the box. That’s a potent weapon for a hitter.

‘The body language and purpose with which he surges forward was amazing. That’s what we expected to see from him, and we’re glad we saw it in Doncaster. He’s just recently arrived, but he’s already set the groundwork.’

Everton failed to score in their opening three Premier League games for the first time in their history, but Dyche feels Beto’s presence would motivate his teammates to rediscover their scoring touch.

‘When goal scorers score, it frequently frees up other players to go and score as well,’ he adds. ‘We have to have the mindset to score from everywhere on the pitch.

He’s had a pre-season with Udinese and is ready to play at Bramall Lane. He’s made it plain that he wants to get involved as soon as possible.’

Beto might soon be playing alongside Calvert-Lewin, who suffered a facial injury in the 4-0 defeat at Aston Villa.

‘It’s touch and go this weekend, but after the international break, I can say he’ll be clear straight away,’ Dyche added.

‘He does not require surgery, but there is a tiny issue on his sinus area that is delicate. We must exercise extreme caution. The good news is that he was able to train through it. We were successful in keeping him fit in his body.’
