Player disappointed over failed Wolves move – ‘Clearly expressed’ desire to join them
Last week, we covered claims from Italy that Wolverhampton Wanderers proposed a loan deal with a mandatory purchase option to sign Boulaye Dia but it was turned down by Salernitana.
This has been confirmed by Salernitana sporting director Morgan De Sanctis, and he further stated Wolves’ offer arrived late on Thursday, and that he and his side will “not forget” the Premier League side’s behaviour.
Salernitana News provide a background on why the striker didn’t end up at Molineux, when explaining what’s next for him at the Serie A side.
The report states it has been the 26-year-old’s ‘personal goal’ to move to the Premier League, and when Wolves made an offer, he was keen on making a switch.
On deadline day, Dia had ‘clearly expressed’ to the Italian club his desire to take the ‘first possible flight to England’ to join Gary O’Neil’s side.
However, Salernitana rejected Wolves’ offer as they didn’t have sufficient time to bring in a replacement late in the window, leaving the Senegal international disappointed.
Dia will have to wait at least until January to make a switch to the Premier League, while Salernitana’s immediate priority would be to fix their relationship with the player, so that he can make himself available under Paulo Sousa’s orders.
