Everton can still sign eight free agents after the transfer market closes – gallery
Everton had a dismal summer transfer deadline day.
According to manager Sean Dyche, the Toffees’ lack of business on the last day of the transfer window was not ‘ideal’. Everton were working on deals, but Dyche conceded they did not suit the club financially.
Meanwhile, Alex Iwobi was sold to Fulham for about £22 million, Neal Maupay went on loan to Brentford, and Tom Cannon joined Leicester City for about £7.5 million.
As a result, several supporters have raised concern that Everton’s team may be lacking in depth. The Blues had just seven men on the bench for Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Sheffield United, with two of them being goalkeepers, and have only one point from their first four games.
To be fair, Everton have a rather lengthy injury list for this time of year, with Lewis Dobbin and Michael Keane both out with knocks at Bramall Lane. It’s unusual for every player to be available for an extended amount of time during a campaign.
