Report: Everton Terminate £25m Midfielder’s Contract

Everton Releases Gbamin: The Expensive Decision Behind the Scenes
Gbamin’s Last Whistle at Goodison Park
Everton have parted company with midfielder Jean-Phillipe Gbamin, causing consternation in the football world. The decision was made official on the final day of the transfer window last Friday, and it did not come cheap for the Merseyside club.

A Financial Deep Dive into the Contract Dilemma

Gbamin, 27, was in the final year of his contract, which expired in June 2024. Despite Everton’s attempts to sell him for a cheap £5 million during the summer transfer window, no bidders stepped forward. Faced with few options, the club elected to cancel his contract, which came at a high cost. Though the exact price is unknown, it is believed to be in the “high seven-figure range,” according to reliable sources.

An Adventure Injuries marred
Gbamin’s experience at Everton has been anything but easy. He made only eight appearances for the Toffees after joining from Mainz for a cost of £25 million in August 2019. His time with CSKA Moscow and Trabzonspor included loan spells, although his career was largely overshadowed by a string of bad injuries.

First, he missed 229 games due to a hamstring ailment suffered immediately after his arrival. Then, in May 2020, he damaged his Achilles tendon, forcing him to miss 309 days of action.

What Happens Next for Gbamin?
The midfielder is now a free agent, able to join any team for no charge. It’s unclear where he’ll go next, but his exit from Everton serves as a cautionary story for both organizations and players.

‘Problem’: BBC pundit has now noticed something else wrong with Everton other than just ‘poor finishing’

Garth Crooks has given his assessment of Everton’s performance against Sheffield United.

Everton earned their first Premier League point of the season on Saturday, drawing 2-2 with newly promoted Sheffield United.
Sean Dyche’s team had to fight for the victory. The Toffees took the lead when Abdoulaye Doucoure scored the club’s first Premier League goal of the season, but the Blades rallied to equalize the game.

The hosts had a corner with seconds remaining. Oli McBurnie climbed highest to slam a bouncing header into the net. Jordan Pickford made a stunning save to punch the ball away, assisted by the woodwork. The England goalkeeper was on hand once more to keep the ball out as the Sheffield United striker attempted to bundle in the rebound.

Pickford’s heroics at the end earned him a spot in Garth Crook’s Team of the Week. The BBC Sport analyst, on the other hand, was less complimentary of the rest of the Everton squad. “If Everton are to survive this season, they can’t afford to concede two goals, especially when they score two away from home,” he remarked. Their issue hasn’t been so much with their bad finishing as it has been with their heinous defending.

Everton’s defense appears frail.
Much has been made of Everton’s goal drought. Last season, the Merseyside club came dangerously close to being relegated from the Premier League.
Dyche attempted to remedy his team’s lack of cutting edge during the summer transfer window. Beto, Youssef Chermiti, Arnaut Danjuma, and Jack Harrison were all brought to Goodison Park to help Everton improve their finishing.

However, the Toffees’ issues at the back remain, and could ultimately end up costing them their top flight status this season. Everton have already conceded eight goals in four Premier League games.

Jarrad Branthwaite has been brought into the starting XI in place of the struggling Michael Keane. However, the 21-year-old centre-back may not be ready to shoulder that burden throughout the entire season. Meanwhile, summer arrival Ashley Young has struggled to hit the ground running at the club.

Dyche needs to make his side more solid at the back as a matter of urgency.
