Anthony Gordon’s heartfelt message after forcing through Newcastle transfer is in stark contrast to a blunt 64-word statement from boyhood club Everton

Things had deteriorated in recent days, with the teenager going AWOL from training and then submitting a transfer request to depart.

After being released by Merseyside rivals Liverpool, the winger joined Everton as an 11-year-old and worked his way up through the ranks to the first team.

Gordon appeared in 78 games, scoring seven goals, before joining high-flying Newcastle.

He leaves an unmanaged Everton fighting for Premier League survival, with fans turning against the owners.

Several players have been the target of recent annoyances, with social media videos showing supporters venting their rage at Gordon.

Despite this, the 21-year-old sent a lengthy statement to fans about his time at Everton, in which he said he never took criticism personally.
“To Everton…,” he wrote. I joined this club when I was 11 years old, and it not only provided me with a venue to play football, but it also provided me with a second family. The club has molded me into the footballer and, more significantly, the person I am today; it has provided me with all I could have hoped for and more.

“Like any young scouser living two minutes from the stadium, I fantasized about scoring inside Goodison, in front of thousands of screaming fans.” I recall going to away games with my friends, singing the players’ songs and wishing it would happen to me. Last year felt weird since all of my childhood fantasies were coming true. I wish I could relive some of those days, but I’ll be content with the memories, which will last me a lifetime.

“To the fans, thank you for giving me some of the best nights of my life.” You helped me improve as a player. I’ve always thrived on your enthusiasm, and you’ve always pushed me to run faster and harder.

“There have been some challenging moments this year, but I have never taken any of it personally; stick by the team because they need you.”

“I’ve built so many good relationships with players, fans, coaches, and other members of staff over the years, and I’m going to miss everyone terribly.” Despite the fact that the last two years have been difficult at times, the people at Finch Farm have always made me come in with a grin.

“I want to thank everyone who has helped me over the last 11 years I’ve been at this amazing club; there are far too many names to mention, but I will be eternally grateful for the time people have invested in me.”

“I have loved this club since the day I joined it, but the time has come for me to leave.” I know many may be perplexed, but the next chapter awaits. I will always hope the best for this club and keep an eye on it.

“Thank you and best wishes from the bottom of my heart.” Anthony.”

This is in stark contrast to Everton’s frank 64-word statement following Gordon’s departure, which confirmed Gordon had submitted a transfer request.

“Anthony Gordon has joined Newcastle United for an undisclosed fee,” Everton said in a statement on Sunday.

“The 21-year-old forward has left Everton after submitting a formal transfer request.”

“Gordon joined the Club’s Academy at the age of 11 and made his senior debut in a Europa League tie in December 2017 as a 16-year-old.” He went on to compete in 78 First-Team games, scoring seven goals.”
