Chris Jack shares how Michael Beale ‘will be done as Rangers manager’ amid £5m Ibrox reveal
Michael Beale will be “done” as Rangers manager if he doesn’t sort out his record in big games, according to Chris Jack.
The journalist stated on The Herland website on 5 September that the reactions to the Gers coach’ past Old Firm failures did not elicit the same reaction as the 1-0 setback to Celtic on Sunday (3 September).
After recording a net spend of about £5million during the summer window, Jack said Beale’s future now rests on the matches that fall into the big-game category at home and abroad.
“Fans were right to believe that better was to come after the sums – which has been muted at a net spend of around £5million – that were spent over the summer but it was a case of the more things change, the more they stay the same at Ibrox,” he said.
“If Beale can’t alter that record, he will be done as Rangers manager. Ultimately, and as is the way at Ibrox, he will get little praise for taking care of the mundane business in the Premiership and his future now rests on the matches that fall into the ‘big game’ category at home and abroad.”
It’s going to be extremely difficult for Beale to recover from the setbacks that he has faced over the past week as the Rangers boss.
On the back of the 5-1 humbling against PSV in the Champions League qualifiers, the last thing he needed was to fall defeat at home to Celtic.
That has well and truly ramped up the pressure and all kinds of questions – about matters on and off the pitch – are being asked about the Light Blues manager.
While he holds a decent record against most sides in the SPFL, he is always going to be judged on his side’s performances in the Old Firm and it hasn’t been good enough after falling to another derby-day defeat.
There is now very little margin for error in the league for the Gers and they will be expected to put together some decent form in the Europa League after reaching the final in 2022, otherwise, things will be looking bleak for Beale.
