Bayern Munich has signed England striker Harry Kane on a four-year contract from Tottenham Hotspur.
MUNICH, August 12 (Reuters) – England captain Harry Kane has signed a four-year contract with Bundesliga winners Bayern Munich after leaving Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur.

Bayern, who play RB Leipzig in the Super Cup later on Saturday, announced the 30-year-old striker was signed until 2027 after protracted talks between the two teams.

They did not reveal the transfer fee, which has been reported in the media to be approximately 100 million euros ($109 million). That would be a Bundesliga record, surpassing Bayern Munich’s payment of 80 million euros to Atletico Madrid for Lucas Hernandez in 2019.

“The fans can look forward to Harry Kane and the start of the new season,” club CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen remarked. “Harry was near the top of our wish list.” So we went all-in, but within a structure and within financial constraints.”

Kane, who passed his physical late on Friday, has spent the majority of his career with Tottenham, having joined their system as an 11-year-old and scoring a club record 280 goals in over 430 games across all competitions.

He is also the second-highest Premier League scorer of all time with 213 goals, 47 behind Alan Shearer, and England’s all-time leading marksman with 58 goals in 84 appearances.

“I am happy to be here,” Kane stated in a club interview. “I believe Bayern Munich is one of the most powerful clubs in the world.” “I want to keep getting better and pushing myself to be the best.”

“I felt it was the next logical step in my career.” “Year after year, (Bayern has) a good winning culture,” he remarked.

With the addition of Kane, who also brings a wealth of experience and leadership characteristics, Bayern has finally found a striker to replace Robert Lewandowski, who left for Barcelona in 2022.

Last season, the Bavarians struggled for goals and just narrowly won the league title as Borussia Dortmund surprisingly failed to win their final home game.

Bayern will begin their Bundesliga season next week against Werder Bremen.

Kane’s arrival also appears to boost his own chances of winning big trophies, after he failed to end Tottenham’s 15-year trophy drought during his stint at the club. Spurs did not qualify for European competition this season.
