Nottingham Forest transfer news from NottinghamshireLive as Reds favourite Mark Crossley recommends a Liverpool goalkeeper to Steve Cooper and Evangelos Marinakis

Nottingham Forest have been urged to sign Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher in the summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old looks set to leave Liverpool in search of first team football, as the Irishman has played just 21 games over the last five seasons. He joined Liverpool from Ringmahon Rangers as a 16-year-old and has never played for another club.

Former Forest stopper Mark Crossley, who played for Forest between 1987 and 2000, has recommended Kelleher to the Reds, while also giving his thoughts on Dean Henderson and Wayne Hennessey ahead of next season.

“I’ve watched a lot of football and played it,” Crossley wrote on Twitter. “I love Dean Henderson and wish we could sign him. Navas filled the gap and Wayne Hennessey is quality. Keep him there to help along with GK coach Danny Alcock. I want to recommend Caoimhin Kelleher if we can.”

Speaking earlier this month, Republic of Ireland boss Stephen Kenny gave an update on Kelleher’s future. He said: “It looks like he will be on the move this summer, and it can only benefit him because he needs to play games. He has been starved of games this year and that has been a problem for him.

“He is very talented, and it is hard to leave Liverpool, such an iconic club. It is not easy to move, there is a process you go through at a club like that.

“The previous season was a success to a degree for him, winning the League Cup and playing in the cup competitions, there were a lot of games. They got knocked out early this year so there wasn’t much football for him. I think he is ready to go and play regularly, he certainly needs to play as he is not so young now, he is 24.

“I think it will happen this summer. It is not right normally to talk about a player moving, but at Liverpool, he is behind one of the best goalkeepers in the world. It is not going to get any easier and you can’t improve when you aren’t playing.”
