Alan Hutton believes Youri Tielemans will improve the Aston Villa squad after it was confirmed an agreement has been reached to sign the Belgium midfielder.

On Saturday evening (10 July), Villa announced on Twitter that Tielemans, 26, has agreed to sign for them on a free transfer on 1 July, once his contract at Leicester City official expires.

The Athletic journalist David Ornstein had earlier reported that Tielemans had undergone a medical with the Villans to become Unai Emery’s first signing of the summer transfer window.

Hutton has a slight doubt about Tielemans because the Belgium international didn’t play as well as he should have done while Leicester were relegated this season.

However, the ex-Villan does maintain that the former Anderlecht as is a good signing for his former club.

Speaking to Villa News, Hutton said: “There’s obviously a great player in there and he’s shown that in the Premier League for a number of seasons.

The only problem is that he had a poor season last season but it wasn’t only him, I think the majority of the Leicester squad did and that’s why they went down.

Tielemans has still got a lot of football in him, he’s only 26.

He’s got a lot to give and I think he would make the Aston Villa squad better. That’s a good thing.”

Tielemans played 31 times in the Premier League as Leicester were relegated.

The midfield playmaker scored three goals and supplied two assists while it’s arguable that Leicester’s worst run of form during the campaign came over March and April while the Belgian was injured.
