Marcelino Nez, a Chile international midfielder, has joined Norwich City on a permanent basis for an unknown amount.
The 22-year-old joins City from Chilean top-flight club Universidad Católica on a contract through 2026.
Nez has made 83 appearances in all competitions since breaking into the main squad at Universidad Católica, scoring 11 goals.
He’ll be wearing shirt number 26.
“I’m really happy to have arrived here, and I’m just excited to get started,” Nez told canaries.co.uk.
“How do I view myself? Well, I prefer to get into the box and shoot for the goal. I enjoy participating in set-plays and being involved both within and outside of the box.
“Now that I’m here at Norwich, I have goals and I want to do everything I can for the club.”
Nez has won two Chilean Primera División league titles, as well as experience in the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana, South America’s equivalents of the UEFA Champions League and Europa League.
He has ten senior caps for Chile’s national team. His first and only international goal came against Bolivia in a FIFA World Cup qualification game in January 2022.
Nez becomes the club’s first Chilean player after joining with City.
“We’re really pleased to have Marcelino in,” stated head coach Dean Smith. We feel he can connect us from the back to the front.
“He can spot a pass and open up things.” He also had several spectacular goals in South America. His all-around game is one that we believe will suit us and fulfill our needs.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming him to the club and working with him.”
The transfer is subject to international clearance and work visa approval.
