City and Sam McCallum have reached an agreement.
Norwich City have completed the permanent transfer of Coventry City left-back Sam McCallum for an undisclosed amount.
The 19-year-old has agreed to terms until the summer of 2024 and will spend the rest of the 2019-20 season on loan at Coventry.
McCallum attended Jamie Vardy’s V9 Academy as well as non-league club Herne Bay.
In August 2018, the defender moved up the leagues to join Coventry City in League One, where he has spent the first half of the season assisting their promotion bid to England’s third tier.
McCallum has made 27 appearances and scored three goals in all competitions this season.
McCallum told canaries.co.uk, “The last 24 hours have been hectic, to say the least, but quite overwhelming as well.” It’s also been fantastic because everyone has embraced me with open arms.
“I’m a pretty athletic player.” I play left-back but can also play wing-back, so I like to move up and down the wings.
“The club has a good philosophy of developing young players such as Max and Jamal, as well as Ben Godfrey.” It’s an excellent philosophy.
“I came here because of the style of play.” It appeals to me greatly. Now that I’ve met the folks here, I can say that they’re also quite friendly. Those are the most important points.
“I’m looking forward to returning on loan.” The goal is just to be promoted, whether automatically or through the playoffs.”
“Sam is a very interesting talent, and we’re delighted that he sees his long-term future with us,” stated head coach Daniel Farke.
“His potential excites us all. He’s a young, homegrown talent who we believe can grow and improve. We will provide him with all of the necessary tools in our surroundings and eagerly await his improvement.”
Everyone at Norwich City wishes Sam well for the remainder of the season at Coventry.
