As Arsenal considers a transfer, James Maddison sends a message to Leicester fans.
Following the Foxes’ relegation from the Premier League, the Leicester and England star is now officially a Championship footballer, and demand for his services is expected to increase.
James Maddison has spoken out about his “hurt” and “devastation” following Leicester’s relegation from the Premier League.

The East Midlands club had a disastrous season, and despite a 2-1 win over West Ham on the penultimate day of the season, they were relegated to the Championship. It brings to an end a highly successful near-decade in the top flight that has seen Leicester win the title and FA Cup, as well as participate in Europe on a regular basis.

Maddison was one of the first Leicester City players to respond to the club’s relegation with a somber social media message. He posted a photo of himself on his haunches to Instagram.

“Absolutely devastated to be relegated from the Premier League,” a caption accompanied the image said. I’ve taken some time to ponder on the season’s outcome, and to be honest, it doesn’t make it any easier.

“This will hurt for a long time and will most likely haunt us all forever.” But that’s life, and it’s about how you recover from setbacks and failure, and sadly, that’s exactly what this season was.

“With the players we have, we should never have been in this position.” But we accept responsibility for it and the resulting backlash, and we will continue to stick together @lcfc.”

The former Norwich City midfielder is not to blame for Leicester’s relegation. In the Premier League, the 26-year-old scored ten goals and assisted on nine others.

With only one year remaining on his current deal at the King Power Stadium, he is believed to be in great demand. Arsenal has been linked on numerous occasions, while Newcastle is expected to be keen as they look to bolster their squad ahead of their return to the Champions League.

After relegation, Maddison might be among a slew of first-team players to leave Leicester this summer. Youri Tielemans has previously stated that he will leave at the end of his contract.

While Maddison must make a long-term choice, he will first want to focus on his latest England call-up. Following his selection for the World Cup in Qatar, he has returned to Gareth Southgate’s team for the latest series of international matches.

The Three Lions will first face Malta in a Euro 2024 qualifier before playing North Macedonia three days later at Old Trafford. Maddison has only two caps despite being a standout performer for Leicester.

He joined Leicester from Norwich in 2018 for a cost of £20 million. The playmaker has appeared in 203 games for the club, scoring 55 times.
