Spotted: Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Seamus Coleman back in Everton training

Everton have welcomed Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Seamus Coleman back to training ahead of their Premier League clash with Arsenal next weekend.

The England striker has been out injured since fracturing a cheekbone in the 4-0 defeat to Aston Villa following a collision with Emi Martinez, while Seamus Coleman has been recovering from a knee injury suffered at the back end of last season.

Neither player was fit enough to be considered for an international call-up during the current break, but both players have returned to training this week and have been spotted in images posted by the club on their official Twitter account (8 September).

After losing Alex Iwobi and Demarai Gray since the summer transfer window closed, Everton are in a considerably weaker position in attack than they anticipated being at one point.

Beto’s arrival during the summer means there is a natural replacement in the number nine position for the first time in a while, because we’re not counting Neal Maupay’s tenure, but the return of of Calvert-Lewin to fitness can only be a good thing.

He’s been the main man in the striker position for years and when he is at his best and fittest, there aren’t many better strikers in the Premier League.

As for Coleman, the team has missed his leadership qualities at right-back but Nathan Patterson’s performances have been excellent and he has arguably cemented his spot as the first-choice.

But competition for places is always a good thing and in the current situation we’re in means fresh faces are always likely to be a positive, and with such a big game coming up it’s good to have more options of quality.

In other Everton news, £15m man could replace Gray amid “limited” options in attack.
